I've probably spent way more time thinking about this than i should, but why do people cover their rear window wipers with plastic bags? It seems to me the plastic would reduce the friction and therefore the wiping action of the wipers. Can someone please tell me why you would do this; and why its only good for rear wipers and not the front ones?
Posted by Matthew at December 22, 2003 01:51 PMPeople don't cover them in plastic bags on purpose. When you get a new car or have a new wiper blade put on, the manufacturers leave them in a plastic bag to protect the blade. Sometimes, espeically if it's a new car, people just forget to take it off.
Posted by: Kristi at December 22, 2003 07:19 PMThe only time I've actually spotted this happening is while in line at a car wash. For some reason, the attendants always put bags on the rear wipers, and without fail the driver forgets to take it off.
Posted by: Jack at December 22, 2003 09:54 PMThe reason is that in the car wash the nylon strings of the car roller could get stuck inbetween the rear wiper, and rip it off. It happened to my car: because the attendant didn't put the plastic jacket on correctly, I saw the jacket being brushed off, followed two seconds later by the rear wiper :-(
